NAThers Energy Assessments
Residential energy assessments meeting compliance to move your project forward.
Being available to talk with, co-ordinate and orchestrate from the beginning can be better than to 'perhaps, maybe or what-if!' when the clock is ticking.
A NatHERS energy assessment shows you how to make a good design for your benefit of living in and for when the time comes to move on.
A NatHERS Accredited Assessor can guide the design of your home to meet the NCC, while also providing advice on how to reduce your heating and cooling needs.
Working to a minimum of 7 stars with guidance to achieve the best for your project
The NatHERS star rating is included in an energy assessment for a new home. A star rating is out of 10 and considers a home’s design, orientation, construction materials, as well as the local climate.
The Whole of Home rating is for a new home complements the importance of energy performance in new builds and focus on energy performance.
NatHERS assessors complete training and comply with professional quality assurance and a code of conduct. Using a NatHERS Accredited Assessor ensures a reliable energy rating.
NatHERS has only been available for rating new homes and major renovations. The Australian governments are expecting there to be a range of users of NatHERS for existing homes:
jurisdictions to use the ratings to underpin home energy rating disclosure schemes at the point of sale or lease
banks may use the ratings to verify green loans. This will drive energy performance improvements in existing housing stock.
improvements to their home and cut energy bills.
The Residential Efficiency Scorecard program consists of the Scorecard assessment tool, assessor training and assessor accreditation. A successful first step in providing energy ratings for existing homes.

7 Star NAThers Energy Certificates
The NatHERS star rating is included in an energy assessment for a new home. The energy performance of your apartment or house is based on the home’s design, materials and construction. The findings are converted to a rating between 0 and 10 stars, which is specific to your home.
A higher star rating means the home is more comfortable to live in and is cheaper to run. Lower star ratings mean a home is more costly to keep comfortable.
The key to achieving a comfortable, high-performing home is to design for your local climate.
Whole - of - Home
The Whole of Home rating is used to demonstrate energy use for new residential buildings. The entire home including appliances, solar and batteries are measured for compliance with this energy efficiency requirement.
The Whole of Home assessment is a separate rating out of 100, where 100 is a net zero energy value home. A larger than average solar system that generates more energy than it uses is one way a home may rate over 100.
NCC Section J & JV3 Compliance
Section J assessments aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by ensuring non-residential buildings in Australia comply with the National Construction Code (NCC) ensuring buildings use energy efficiently.
The JV3 Energy Compliance Assessment models the building in energy software which generates the whole of building energy consumption.
A reference building is used to compare the proposed building's energy consumption allowing for greater design flexibility compared to the Deemed-to-Satisfy (DtS) method.
The NCC Section J DTS compliance method calculates minimum requirements for buildings, looking at each area of the building independently demonstrating compliance with NCC requirements. These include insulation levels, glazing performance, HVAC systems and lighting.
